26th International Congress of Papyrology
First circular
The Congress will take place at the University of Geneva from Monday, August 16 to Saturday, August 21, 2010.

Participants will find on the website necessary information about registration, announcing a contribution, transportation and accommodation.

Papers (20 minutes) will fall within the following fields: Collections, preservation and conservation; Literary and semi-literary papyri; Religions (pagan and Christian) and magic; Juristic papyrology; Onomastics, prosopography and topography; Language in the papyri; Social, cultural, and economic history; Palaeography; Herculanensia; Papyrology and Egyptology (Demotic, Coptic); Arabic papyrology; Digital technology and tools; Papyrologists in the field.
Short papers (10 minutes) will be dedicated to presentations discussing a single document, especially a new and interesting papyrus: Documentary papyri (Ptolemaic, Roman, Late Antique); Literary or semi-literary papyri.
Participants will also have the opportunity to present posters; detailed information will be given in the 2nd circular.
Participants who wish to announce a paper, a short paper or a poster are required to submit a title and an abstract (800-1000 signs) to the address papyrocongress2010@unige.ch from now until the end of February 2010, along with specification on the form of presentation desired.
All contributions should be in one of the following languages: English, French, German, Italian.
During the Congress, we plan to organize a visit to two well-known institutions: the Fondation Bodmer and Bibliotheca Bodmeriana (Cologny, www.fondationbodmer.org), and the Fondation Hardt pour l'étude de l'Antiquité classique (Vandoeuvres, www.fondationhardt.ch).
After the Congress, we plan an excursion (subject to charges) from Saturday afternoon till Sunday; detailed information will be given in the 2nd circular.
Registration for the Congress must be made on-line on the Congress website, from September, 21th until the end of May 2010. People interested in the post-Congress excursion must make a pre-registration when they register for the Congress; the organizers will contact them in due course.
The on-line registration page allows payment by credit card; participants who wish to pay their fees using other payment methods are also required to fill in the registration form. Registration fees:
• preferential fee CHF 250 (about 170 EUR, 240 USD) until the end of April 2010
• regular fee CHF 300 (about 200 EUR, 285 USD) until the end of May 2010
Upon motivated request, students may be granted reduced fees.
The 2nd circular will be posted on the website in october-november 2009. It will contain detailed information about housing, access to Geneva and to the Congress buildings, visits and excursions, along with detailed instructions for contributions.
